ExFAB's Innovate and Elevate Lecture Series kicked off in style with a fantastic talk by Dr. Craig Hawker, who shared his deep experience with translating academic innovation with over 50 attendees at UCSB and 10 more via Zoom! Dr. Hawker has over 80 U.S. patents that have supported the formation of 10 startups. He is also the co-inventor/co-founder of Olaplex.

This week, the National Science Foundation announced the award of a six-year, $22M grant to UC Santa Barbara under its biofoundries program for the establishment of the BioFoundry for Extreme and Exceptional Fungi, Archaea and Bacteria (ExFAB), a collaboration led by UC Santa Barbara (UCSB), together with UC Riverside (UCR), and Cal Poly Pomona (CPP).
