Dr. Valentine received his B.S. in Biochemistry/Chemistry and M.S. in Chemistry from UC San Diego followed by an M.S. and Ph.D. in Earth System Science at UC Irvine, and then took an NSF Postdoctoral Fellowship in Microbial Biology at Scripps Institution of Oceanography.   He joined the UC Santa Barbara faculty in 2001 and conducts research at the interface of microbes, chemicals and the ocean.
